Dream BIG and make it happen!
Skip the resolutions! Set S.M.A.R.T meaningful goals you WILL CRUSH this year!
SET S.M.A.R.T. GOALS
When you set effective goals, you will achieve more! Goals are different than resolutions. Goals provide focus, enhance productivity, bolster self-esteem, and increase commitment!
When setting a goal, clearly outline the series of steps for achieving it to stay on track and reduce overwhelm. Make your goals S.M.A.R.T. – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.
With practice, you will find that you are able to achieve more than you ever thought you could!
CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING AS YOU SET YOUR GOALS:
Be as detailed as possible. The more information you supply, the more accurate the results will be.
INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Who is involved?
- What do you want to accomplish?
- When?
- Where?
- Why?
- Which requirements and constraints exist?
- For example, “I want to exercise more” is not specifc enough and feels unmanageable. However, “I want to go to the gym at least three times a week starting January 1st” is more specific and defined, which will allow you to take actionable steps towards reaching the target goal.
M. Measurable. IS THIS GOAL MEASURABLE?
Establish how you will measure progress. How will you know when the goal is achieved? Make a checklist of tasks to get done and check off each item as it is accomplished.
A. Attainable. IS THIS GOAL ATTAINABLE?
When you clearly state your goal, you also develop the positive attitudes, abilities, and skills to get there successfully. And as we know that positive attitude can be everything! Too often we get caught up in what we think we should be doing instead of actually going after our REAL desires. Be sure the goals you are setting are actually something you REALLY want and you will feel more of a “fire” to get there!
R. Realistic. IS THIS GOAL REALISTIC?
You must be willing and able to work toward your goal.
- How committed are you?
- Have you done something similar in the past?
- What do you need to do to achieve the goal?
Be honest with yourself about your available time and energy and plan accordingly.
Be sure your goal inspires and motivates you! 🙂
T. Timely. IS THIS GOAL TIMELY?
Put a deadline on it! Mark each deadline for your goals in your planner to help you stay on track! Do something nice for yourself, or something you enjoy to celebrate each deadline/goal accomplished! Yaay! You did it!
WRITE IT DOWN!
The act of writing it down makes thoughts real and ideas more concrete. When writing out goals, use positive language for a positive outcome – work for what you want, not what you want to leave behind!
Use this template to guide you.
1. What makes your goal specific?
2. How can your goal be measured?
3. How is your goal attainable?
4. What makes your goal realistic?
5. What is the timeline for your goal?
Make a Vision Board!
VISION BOARD
Entrepreneurs and athletes frequently use visuals to train their focus and stay on target, and you can too! Compiling images in the form of a vision board is extremely effective at influencing your mind and harnessing your intention to bring about positive change.
A vision board is a small “poster” of images of actions, words, products, or places representing what you want in your life. Vision boards are a fun way to keep your motivation driving directly towards your desires! An “in your face” reminder if you will. LOL They can also drive your decision making process. They serve as a visual, motivational , very present reminderof what your actions should work towards! And they are fun!
CREATE A VISION BOARD
What you think about, you bring about!
TO MAKE A VISION BOARD
You can do this in two ways. Use the tools above OR just begin allowing the pictures and thoughts to move you in a direction.
Decide what part of your life this board will represent and for what period of time. Is this for short-term or long-term goals? You can make several mini-boards for each area with a goal or cone large board.
AFTER YOUR GOALS ARE CLEAR, use a blank wall or board to pin or glue images as a collage.
Collect images from:
- magazines
- personal photo albums
- online
- your own sketches
SUPPLEMENT IMAGES WITH QUOTES OR WORDS that also represent your vision. Use vibrant colors to enhance the emotion of these pieces. A vision board represents everything that is YOU, so creatively express YOU! For “portable” vision boards, use a piece of cardboard to glue or tack images in place. Cork boards work well for this, too. Otherwise, tape images to open wall space in an area where you frequently work.
DISPLAY YOUR VISION BOARD in a place that is highly visible to you. Popular places to hang vision boards are above computer screens, in offices, next to mirrors, on refrigerators, or any high traffic area of your home or office. You may want to take a photo of your vision board or create a digital version to display on a mobile device.
MEDITATE ON THESE IMAGES for a few minutes a day. As these visions become reality, acknowledge the success with check marks or stamps recognizing the piece as achieved. Give yourself the satisfaction of completion!
Have fun with this! You could even have a Vision Board party with friends/family, co-workers! They are so fun! I recently made one that I display in my bathroom so I am sure to see it EVERY morning!
Wishing you the biggest of dreams that YOU make happen!
Now go CRUSH 2020 with intention! You got this!
