One, of the many, things I discuss with clients and KickStart Your Health Members is what it means to tune in and REALLY listen to your body.
Each body is different and has different needs. Rather than counting, weighing or tracking or following a rigid specific diet I prefer to teach my clients how to tune in and really be able to discover when they have had enough food AND how much of which foods to eat, for their unique body!
I findthis is more do-able, sustainable way of eating that offers some flexibility. It is REAL life eating!
The motto I like to use is “Just eat REAL Food!” Eating healthy and aiding your body in becoming as vibrant as it can be becomes so mucheasier when you take the guess work out of it and just eat REAL food; living (or was living) food with amazing live bacteria to feed our gut and system. When we ditch the processed, factory made stuff (food) and think to ourselves is this REAL a wonderful, simply healthy world opens up (hence..Simple Health)! 🎉REAL Food!
When we eat REAL food we become more able to really tune in and listen. When you do this, feeding your unique body becomes less of a guessing a game!
The need to measure, count calories, points or eat exact percentages of something goes aside! It is SO freeing! And THIS is what makes a healthy lifestyle sustainable! 🎉🎉 If you are eating all REAL foods and listening for cues your body WILL tell you when it has had enough and which foods don’t agree with you.
This is a practice and it takes time. I work with clients with this over weeks, sometimes even months!
📌Mindful Eating– When we eat mindfully you are present and in the moment, eating slowly, breathing and tuning in to the “I’m satisfied, stop eating” signals from your stomach to your brain. REALLY tune in AND STOP when you feel satisfied, or you may eat too much.
📌Portion size- if you practice mindful eating with REAL food you will likely notice your portion sizes are much smaller than they once were to feel satisfied or that you are eating much less than you thought you needed to feel satisfied. It’s a wonderful thing! That’s why it’s super important to ALWAYS eat mindfully especially when at a restaurant. Portion sizes are HUGE when eating out and all of that can put stress on your metabolism if you eat too much. Both derailing progress.
📌 Look/listen for cues– Your body DOES tell you if something doesn’t agree with you.
Look/feel/listen for cues like:
Bloating Stuffiness/congestion/sneezing
Fatigue Cough
Jitters Constipation
Skin irritations
Inflammation/ pain in joints
Itchy ears
Over excitement/too much energy
Upset stomach/gurgling stomach
Tickle in the throat
….And more
Generally speaking you will actually get these symptom within 20-30mins of eating! We just usually ignore them. So tune in and look for these symptoms!
I hope this information is helpful in aiding you in finding what agrees with you and how much is enough for your unique body!
